SPECIALISATION

SUMMARY

Mark is an English Barrister with tremendous experience in the senior courts of the United Kingdom.  Since his call to the Bar in 1981, he has been in continuous practice in London.  At the Bar, Mark specialises in prosecuting and defending high profile cases in the areas of corporate fraud, corrupt practices and serious and organised high value acquisitive crime.  He is a designated Grade 4 senior counsel and considered to be a ‘go to’ advocate in serious and complicated matters.

Mark is a respected trial advocate with a formidable reputation – his advocacy has been described as “forensically brilliant and compelling” – having appeared in some of the most significant fraud and corruption trials in the United Kingdom.  He was, for example, nominated as lead prosecution counsel in a case involving corruption on the part of organised crime within the British banking system.  Most recently, Mark was asked to be lead counsel in one of the United Kingdom’s most notorious criminal cases, namely the Hatton Garden Burglary, which has since been dramatised for television.  He was heavily involved in the proceeds of crime investigations that followed the trail.  What is more, Mark’s experience of fiscal mismanagement is as extensive as it is broad.

But Mark’s professional experience is not limited to England and Wales, for he has appeared as lead counsel in trials in the Cayman Islands and other such jurisdictions.  He has a particular interest in International Modern Slavery and the corruption that supports this abhorrent trade.

Aside from advising and appearing as an advocate in criminal trials at all levels within the British criminal justice system and abroad, Mark has a passion for teaching law and legal practice in a practical and versatile manner.  He regularly delivers lectures and seminars on serious criminal matters, including the application of the UK’s Bribery Act and its extra-territorial effect.  He has appeared on national television and is generally regarded as a natural teacher and advocacy trainer with an easy but highly effective style.
